ROBERT LEVENSTEIN Peacefully, on Tuesday, July 22, 2008 (19 Tammuz 5768) at the Riverview Health Centre at the age of 84. Bob is survived and sadly missed by his daughter Laurie (Bill) Chochinov of Ottawa, his son Ralph (Lynda) Levenstein of Toronto, and his grandchildren Catherine (Marty) Emanuel of Winnipeg, Michael Chochinov of Ottawa, and Ari and Esty Fisher of Toronto. He also leaves his close friend Marsha Udow, his brother Cyril (Marilyn) Levenstein of Toronto and his sister Carole (Bernardo) Hernandez of Yuccah Valley, California plus numerous nephews and nieces. Bob was predeceased by his wife of 49 years, Rona, and his brother Sidney. A lifelong resident of Winnipeg, Bob served in England as a navigator of a Lancaster bomber in the Royal Canadian Air Force during the Second World War. Upon his return he married Rona Hollenberg, became a chartered accountant and formed his own practice. Throughout his life he was very active in B'nai Brith, Shaarey Zedek Synagogue, the Sharon Home, the Manitoba Society of Seniors, the Winnipeg Public Library, and was a driving force in the General Monash Branch of the Royal Canadian Legion. Bob was known for his generosity, his kindness, and his passion for bridge, classical music, sports and current affairs. He was an active learner until the very end. The family thanks Doctor Manishen, Doctor Shojania and his nurse Maureen, Doctor Kumar and Doctor St. Godard and the staff of 3 East at Riverview. A graveside service officiated by Rabbi Pinsker was held Wednesday, July 23 at Shaarey Zedek Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to Shaarey Zedek Synagogue Adult Leisure, 561 Wellington Crescent, Winnipeg, Manitoba, R3M 0A6 or to another charity of choice. It is said that there was no one who met Robert Levenstein that was not the better for it.
